The Long Goodbye

Turning Lines is a Canadian co-operative of musicians, singers and songwriters. Bringing together artists with decades of experience in recording, songwriting and live performance, the project was created as a home for original songs and collaborations that cross traditional genre boundaries.
"The Long Goodbye" tells the story of a couple confronting Alzheimer's disease: a woman gradually losing the memories that have shaped their life together, and the man who loves her struggling to remain beside her as those memories disappear.
Rather than focusing on the disease itself, the song follows the emotional experience of watching someone familiar slowly become unreachable. It is a song about memory, devotion, grief and the painful ambiguity of losing someone who is still physically present.
